•Newberry is home of Champions Park – a baseball tournament area full of fields and recreational area

Brief History

• Newberry dates back to the late 1880′s, when a narrow vein of “hard-rock phosphate” was discovered in the area

•Newberry was officially put on the map when a post office was established in 1894, followed by incorporation in 1895

•Families moved to Newberry to work in mining and timber industries

•Newberry was originally under the name of “Newtown”

•On August 1st,1894, the name was changed to honor the migration from Newberry, South Carolina
